Through divine inspiration (and many saying I should tell my story, and my thinking when the hell am I going have time for that?), I came up with this brilliant idea to write a blog chronicling my undertakings as an MSW, LICSWA, and LICSW (I know! Can one person have any more letters behind their name?!) Recently, though, what truly pushed me over into the blogosphere is twofold. I damn near lost a ton of data. I will say as an individual who has kept journals since the 5th grade, this missing data made me grab my heart and scream “Elizabeth, I am coming this is the big one”. This gave me a nudge, yet I confess I never started the blog. Life happened and I just privately journaled about it and talked to my committee (my group of closest friends) and clinical supervisors.
Then one day I was walking across campus and overheard a student ask her companion (who I assumed was a professor, “How did you get here?”)
I slowed my steps to hear the reply. I am often interested in everyone’s story (professional deathtrap). The professor replied “Oh, schooling and, you know, the rest is history”
I watched the young lady’s shoulders slump.
I thought, “WHAT?! She needs a play by play- she really !@#$% means ‘How did you get here’!”
That did it! I refused to be the nonchalant professor. So, here I am. I will be cutting the bullshit and sharing my student and clinical perspective of my 360 degree view of a clinical social worker and the road to my LICSW. To echo my love Langston “this journey has not been a crystal stair”, and I am betting anyone who knows what the acronyms above mean will find a glimpse of themselves in my story. If you don’t know, I would love to know what you think they stand for, seeing that I, too, have come up with silly meanings over the years.
Still, I am a big fan of having a complete life. Therefore, I will be discussing gardening, exercise (mainly running), shopping, my cooking adventures, DIY projects (my friends have nicknamed me Sanford-Gibbs), wine, books and much more; as one is not defined by their career alone.
I’ve written version of my about page before, you can read them here.

So glad I discovered your post through your comment to my comment on another blog. I have a friend in the field of social work who introduced me to his professional circle, many with your initials, because they needed my help with resume writing. I’ve written and updated his resume over the years through transitions. It’s sad how the industry has restructured with mergers and layoffs. I am looking forward to reading your posts and learning about your journey.
