Should I apply for a job even if I don’t have the requisite years of experience?
Reading this, I think of something I have written in my career journal “Look pass the job title, and at the duties.” It pays to read the job description carefully and reflect on your depth of experience. Then draft a cover letter. Being sure it directly addresses the skill set in the job description: “I have in-depth experience in x, y, and z.” Mention clients you worked with and titles of projects in which you were a senior participant. Then step back and send it to those in your professional circle for feedback. They should be able to help you distinguish if your experience is hefty enough. Then go for it. Regarding a job listing and the number of years- use it as a guideline, but not a deal breaker. I like to think it depends on your level of experience.
