Moments in nature are where I feel alive…. Slow travel is more about the journey than the destination. It is looking for richer, more meaningful experiences along the way, interacting with the place while you’re there, immersing yourself in the culture. Since I started this journey, I’ve lived in a van in Australia, driven across Vietnam on a motorcycle, learned to scuba dive in Thailand, climbed volcanoes in Indonesia – and I recently moved to the Portuguese island of Madeira…I often get funny looks on the trails but, whenever I feel uncomfortable, I try to remind d myself that I belong there just as much as anyone else. I might be the first Black woman they see there, but I definitely won’t be the last. - Bethsheba Blanken
