Is it OK to tell a guest what to bring to a party?

Talking to my dear friend S, I found myself laughing so hard my eyes were watering. S was ranting on about people, and how all they bring to BBQs is potatoes salad, baked beans, and cheap ass beer. She declared this year was going be different and each guest would bring an amazing dish and a bottle. I had to cut her off and say “Why are you telling me this?

She snorted, “Because you set the bar! Do you remember the last dish you brought? Shit, people are still talking about it.” I laughed said “I see (secretly glad that had been her response, as I certainly have never brought any of those things to a gathering at a friend’s home unless requested!).” What I can do, she said bring something amazing. I think this is quite an amazing simple BBQ side dish.
- 4 ears fresh corn
- Juice of one limes
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon herb farm
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Fresh ground pepper
- 2 garlic cloves chopped
- 4 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
Preparation: Using a large knife, cut the kernels from the cob and add to a bowl. In a skillet stir in corn ,butter, lime juice, salt, Herbn’Farm , pepper, cilantro, and scallions and toss to coat. Cook 3-5 minutes. Corn can be served at room temperature

I’m wondering if ice cream with garlic, cilantro, and lime would be good, seems to go so well with so much

Cilantro and lime maybe not sure if I would like garlic in my ice-cream. You might enjoy this post on quirky ice cream flavors
