“One thing that really bothers me is that the people who got conned seem to feel humiliated and ashamed — similar to how many people feel ashamed when they have been sexually assaulted. This is not something to feel ashamed about. The scammers are skilled manipulators of emotions and natural human desires and fears. They know exactly how to ‘pull the wool over someone’s eyes.’ The victims are no different from victims of other kinds of theft or assault or abuse. The scammers violate a trust that is essential to a healthy society.”

What’s really ironic and frustrating is that the shame keeps so many victims from speaking out and warning others, allowing the bad guys to continue doing what they do with no shame. 😡 This is true with both rape and scamming.
