The Greeting

RANT to the greeting, “How’s your day going?” or the other one, “How are you doing today?” Both are intrusive and, frankly, both feel like insincere queries. Just a simple, “Hello” should suffice

Positively Purging-I welcome your feedbacks in the comments and your likes and passing the real life wisdom on to others as I embark on this new venture of “positively purging“, as I know each of these pieces represents something…

  1. Agreed – unless they really want to know the answer

If they’re insincere and only a reflexive greeting, I agree they are intrusive. It has been my aim, lately, to be sure that those I encounter know that they are heard and seen, so I respond, wheather they are sincere or not.

I love that it reminds me of something I once heard “Don’t ask a question, if you truly are not prepared for the answer.” May we all pause before we ask a thoughtless greeting and ask ourselves. Do I really want to know?  This is also something those in customer services are trained to ask, but I am slowly seeing a shift in this. Recently I have been asked “What was the best deal you found today?” and “Did you find anything fun today?”

  3. It depends on the person. When I was in my 20’s I was in a bad mood, feeling like nobody cared about me. I wrote a very short poem:

If I ran into you just by chance, at church, the store, the zoo, And you asked me, “How ya doin’?” I’d say, “Fine thanks, how are you?” But if I ever got the feeling you really gave a damn, Then I just might surprise you and tell you how I am.
