Culinary Challenge – HELP WANTED

image.jpeg

When a client asks me a question I don’t have an answer to, I always reply with “I don’t know, but I will find out”. I think this shows honesty and respect as no one wants to be bullshitted. It is also a good learning opportunity for the both of us- which brings me to you for help. You see, I have posted  countless culinary challenges. I like to think they have all been a successful. Thank you for your comments and likes and encouragement.

Well, today I was restocking my bar cart, and I found this Brickford’s Sarsaparilla soda. I bought this beverage a loooong time ago and have no clue what to do with it. My spouse the chef has some ideas. YES, I love him but I thought you and I the everyday cooks could figure this one out. What would you make with this beverage (it does not have to be a cocktail) that tastes like black licorice (yuck!). No, I didn’t know it tasted that way; after all, it was a culinary challenge. I welcome your ideas and suggestion and as soon as I have a good one I will whip something up and post it.

  1. My Dad would probably have put in in bread pudding, as he once did Galloway’s cough syrup.

I must partially recuse myself, as I have been a food service professional in another life, or a past portion of this one. I would use it to flavor a traditional custard type dessert. Like Derrick suggested. Maybe creme caramel or in a nut pie like pecan pie with some other toasted nut.
I made one with macadamia nut and used Frangelico with a chocolate crust. I would have to taste it.

  3. I would tie a bow on it and give it to someone that likes the taste of black licorice. If you don’t like it, you aren’t going to like anything it flavors!

  5. It can be a good marinade for barbeque chicken wings. There’s a recipe for Cola Wings. Why not invent Sarsi Wings? Add some brown sugar, lemon, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, a pinch of salt and etc… I’ll have to try it on tofu. I love root beer with crispy waffle and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream 🙂
