I spotted the fruit on the cutting board and smiled. I had placed it there that morning. In my house that is our thing. If something’s shelf life is ending, you place it on the counter. The message is “rescue me if you’re home first.” I had beaten my spouse home and looked at the pears, two nectarines, and Meyer lemon (that one came from imperfect produce), shook my head, and got to work. Cheers!
- Two pears
- Two nectarines
- Juice of one lemon
- ½ cup of orange juice
- Vanilla Crown Royal
Methodology: Core pears and nectarines, squeeze in the juice of one Meyer lemon, and add a splash of orange juice. Puree in blender, strain mixture in cheese cloth, pour into a glass jar, add ice and Vanilla Crown Royal; shake, and pour into glasses.
Real-life note: This puree was good- it could be enjoyed as a smoothie. It would be great on top of some vanilla yogurt, or frozen into ice-cubes to give other drinks more flavor. I simply decided on cocktails because who doesn’t want to come home after a long day to a fun drink.
