The Applicant -Pages of A Career Journal

“Thank you for offering me the opportunity to meet with you and to interview for the position of Crisis Intervention Specialist. However, after reviewing the _ website again this morning I will have to decline the interview for the position. My education and work experience is more geared for the position of Program Coordinator. I do hope you will consider me for this position instead.” –

The above was an old email wedged inside my career journal that I pulled out at random. My first thought was I should have taken the interview and mentioned the second job opening during the interview. Oh, to be young and cocky. I read the journal entry that I pulled that loose piece of paper from, “Lord the fire under me burns at a simmer. I have yet to find that career/occupation of my dreams. Which in one sentence/phrase is “I want to uplift and motivate the youth that have no voice, but have a glimmer of light.” Currently _ and I are working on a book to show young girls and women their way through college and into their career field. I ask that if it is your will, empower us with all the tools we need to get the job done. On top of that entry is a faded green post-it that reads “vision. It is an essential for survival. It is spawned by faith, started by hope, sparked by imagination, and strengthened by enthusiasm. It is a sight deeper than a dream, broader than an idea.”
