Why is the question “why are people poor” always asked at job interviews? How do you interview with an agency when you feel very comfortable with them and already know their practices?
I found these questions recently while reading through a old career journal . The poor question does give me an eye roll, but I have come to understand the point behind it. It is often to learn about a job candidate’s social, political, and activist stance; and to see if they will be a good fit with the organization that they are applying for. The second question I am a bit embarrassed I even asked; but, hey, I was green. I would tell anyone today to do your research and go in and be as professional as you can be, because you might walk in and the panel or the interviewer could be someone you don’t know. It’s better to be prepared than not, and it is key to follow their lead.
