How Do I Handle My Bosses’ Gossiping?

Q: My boss regularly complains to me about my co-workers, and they tell me she does the same with them. Her habit of openly  discussing our flaws tends to pit people against each other and create conflict. However, she always says she wants a more cohesive team. What should we do about this? – Anonymous

I respect McIntyre’s advice. Perhaps with enough redirecting she will get the hint at how unprofessional she is being. I would also suggest these co-workers document these encounters so that they have proof, and to go to HR as a team.

Solving work problems through hr department is effectively and ethical way but sometimes you just got to face the problem straight up so the advice would be to just politely tell your boss what she’s doing is having negative impact and should just stop doing it…that’s it, that’s all.

I agree sometimes you just got to face the problem straight on, but I have learned and taught my students when it comes to business/ academia CYA (cover your ass). It’s best to follow the rules and document as you never how the other party may react and/or how your kind words may be misinterpreted. Thank you for reading and commenting.
