Gardening

Exercise for the body and mind. Of course, all the planting, pruning and weeding burn lots of calories, but tackling a new hobby exercises my brain too. Often, we get used to mostly doing things we’re good at, but trying something new means embracing the potential for missteps, which gives  our resilience muscles a workout .The first season, I planted too many squash too close to other things, and their rangy stems and wide leaves blocked the sun, stunting my beloved cabbages I was most looking forward to. I was disappointed, but the next year’s garden was that much better than the hard earned knowledge.

  1. You are doing well with your raised beds. It is 11 years since blogging became my something new to try – and it has really kept my brain working.

      Those lovely raised beds do not belong to me, but to a community garden. I do admire those who have mastered the challenges of gardening beds. I tend to stick with containers/pots or good old plots of dirt.
