When our Social Services Departments were created from an amalgamation of Children’s, Mental Health, and Medical Social workers I found myself as Team Leader, aged just over 30, to people doing work I had never done. My approach to supervision was to learn from them. This worked particularly well with a woman nearing retirement who made it quite clear I had nothing to teach her. I simply agreed and asked her to teach me.
