Real Life Rants

RANT to my neighbor who complained that my lawn was turning brown from lack of water. Apparently, he doesn’t pay attention to the high price or scarcity of water these days, but I DO!

RANT to dog owners who think it’s OK to leave bags of dog poop on the trail as long as they come back for them. Imagine if everyone felt as entitled as you! “It’s OK to leave my kid’s poopy diaper on the trail; I’m coming back for it!” “It’s OK to leave a pile of stinking garbage on the trail; I’m coming back for it!” No one should have to look at (and smell) your dog’s poop for any amount of time when they’re out enjoying nature. Pick up after your dog or leave it at home.

RANT to my neighbors who build a fire in their backyard in the evenings. Your smoke comes into our windows at the time of year when we love having fresh air in our homes. Not only does it smell bad, but it is unhealthy. Try thinking of others (especially those with asthma) and go to a campground if you want a campfire!

RANT to those who buy property where tree(s) have been well-established, some for 100 years, to then cut them down. The shade, the neighborhood beauty and the wildlife provided by our trees really matter. If you don’t like tree debris or are worried about branches falling, find a property that has no trees instead of removing our majestic ones from the land only for your personal preference and gain.

  1. All these offenses are variations of one theme – selfishness. The idea that everything revolves around memy dog, my fire, trees blocking my light … I shouldn’t have to think about anyone else’s feelings or preferences. You, on the other hand, should water your grass so I don’t have to look at a brown lawn. How did selfishness and inconsideration become such an epidemic?
