Reverse Advent Calendar

Rather than receiving gifts, create a “Reverse Advent Calendar.” Each day, place an item from your pantry into a box. On Christmas Eve, donate the box to a local food bank, spreading joy to those in need. You could also try doing this with clothes. Select one piece of clothing to donate each day and then take them to a local charity like Year Up. There is still enough time to do a 7 day advent donation.

Etiquette

I have a question concerning etiquette.

Is it OK for a friend to take a photo of you while you’re eating and to not even let you know?

My friend did this. I called her the next day to ask could she send me the photos she took (as I always share photos), but she didn’t send the one she took of me eating.

I asked her about that specific photo and she said she couldn’t find it.

What do you think?

– Upset

Dear Upset: No – it is not OK to take a photo of someone eating without their permission. In my opinion, it is not OK to take a photo of anyone doing anything – without their permission.

I think you should assume that your friend deleted this photo, and then you need to decide to move on with your life.

Create a Cookbook Nook

Consulting a cookbook is a time-honored way of figuring out what to make for dinner, so dress up your kitchen by making space for your favorite recipe-filled reads. If you’re not sure what to do with a bare corner, fill it with cookbooks—and finish things off with an elegant bookend.

Positively Purging-I welcome your feedbacks in the comments and your likes and passing the real life wisdom on to others as I embark on this new venture of “positively purging”, as I know each of these pieces represents something

Small Wins and Possibilities

My corner store sells a 20-pack of frozen samosas. THEY’RE DELISH and save me the hour journey to the local Indian store.

I bought the last pack months ago, and they never restocked.

On this day, I looked into the freezer section, and saw another 20-pack tucked all the way in the back.

I believe it was there for me.

I use an avocado oil from Trader Joe’s to season my cast iron. I’ve forgotten to pick up a bottle the last two times I’ve gone grocery shopping.

As I was doing my dishes, I glanced at the rows of oils and spices layered above my fridge. Seeing a familiar bottle cap, I reached back, and pulled out an unopened bottle of avocado oil.

I believe it was there for me.

This month has held hard days for many of us. But there are things we can do to orient our brains and our beliefs towards the possibilities we want to see.

Where does your brain orient, and what do you need help seeing?- meenadchi.

No Hugs, Please

I identified with the question from “No Hugs, Please!”

When I was a kid, we had an uncle who made me uncomfortable with his insistence on hugging the kids in the family.

I’m not saying he was a creep, but I found all sorts of ways to avoid him. I wish my folks had taught me that it was OK to just say that I didn’t want to be hugged.

– Don’t Hug Me

Dear Don’t: Parents should encourage their kids to use their voices – while understanding telling your child that when you say “give hugs and kisses,” You’re essentially telling your child that regardless of how he feels, it’s important to do what you say. So when you say “give hugs and kisses,”you’re implying that there will be negative consequences if they doesn’t do what you say. However, it’s all about reading your child’s signals and only hugging when they want to be hugged. Teach your child, “You’re in charge of your body and who touches it.” That’s a message that’s important for kids to carry with them throughout their lives.
