When I Grow Up? Pages of a career journal

“I know you once asked me write down in great detail what I saw my career looking like. I should’ve done it then, but I’m doing it now. The words that come to mind are lively, colorful/diversity, educator, mentor, resourceful, and prayerful. I see myself working on the frontline providing resources and comfort to families, youth, and young adults on various issues. I see myself learning a lot about different state programs and resources for my profession. I don’t see myself having a daily routine, as every day is different and every need is different. My core is to provide empathy, listen nonjudgmentally, and provide individuals with the best tools for the situation. I also see myself as an author, writing books young adults can relate to, speaking at schools, and raising awareness about inner cities on the literacy rate. Yes, all things are possible through Christ. Today’s prayer: Philippians 4:6.”

Rereading this post, I found myself smiling. Penning a similar post in my journal shows me that I am human and not just a woman who has made a fabulous career, but a woman who has gone through the process and continues to go through the process of what I should be doing with my life. One of the quotes I share with my students is by Pastor T.D. Jakes, “If you can’t figure out your purpose, figure out your passion. For your passion will lead you right into your purpose.”

  1. It’s almost as if we have the same the same passion and dream. It felt so real and from the heart. Thank you for sharing. You will finish well.
