Perhaps you were lucky enough to grow up in a house with a big front porch and a smaller back one. One reason that builders and architects designed every house that way 100 years ago was that it helped to keep front doors dry. Relaxing in a gently swaying front-porch swing was a pleasant bonus.

And I suppose that the small awnings these days also help keep porches dry – and never knew that one of the reasons was to keep the front door dry – also assumed it was for summer sleeping and congregating

Those rocking chairs do look huge. I am no professional photographer, but they look like they were taking from a low lens angel. I was glad to read you found a bit of a history lesson in this post. I am also sure those oversized porches were built for congregating 🙂
