Ask before bringing a gift! I have everything I need. And I try to limit my consumption. To me, someone visiting is the gift. And yes ask before stripping the bed. I like being able to choose when to do laundry.

I found this to be wonderful advice. Though I find it to be good to show up with a small token of thanks such as flowers, or something that guest or hostess can consume.
