Twelve things I’ve learned from both sides of the therapy room:
- Silence causes more harm than honest conversation.
- Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s moving forward while fear walks beside you.
- You only need one person to set and hold a boundary: yourself.
- Therapy isn’t about fixing, it’s about understanding and being seen by a steady and caring presence.
- When in doubt, slow down.
- The only person who can change you is you, though support never hurts.
- The things you avoid are usually the things you most need to face.
- Healing follows your own pace, and your nervous system is often your best guide.
- Recovery isn’t linear. It loops and curves and circles back.
- Self-compassion matters. Most “mistakes” were once honest attempts to protect yourself.
- The fact that growth is painful doesn’t mean anything is wrong. Pain is often part of the process.
- Vulnerability is the doorway to connection, but only when it’s offered to trustworthy hands.
