Paparazzi interview – Pages of a Career Journal

“Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.”― Spencer Johnson

“The university evening degree program is considering doing a 20 year anniversary host of articles in the newspaper and alumni magazine. I was asked if I like to take part. At first I was hesitant, as I enjoy my privacy Then I talked to _, and she reminded me that my testimony can be an inspiration for others, and start setting the stage for my life’s work. One of my long term goals has been to write a self-help book. She also thinks it would be beneficial for folks to hear how I excelled academically and professionally while growing as a whole. She told me how to be in charge of an interview by learning the following:

  1. What does the university expect to get from this article?
  2. Is this the first series of articles, or has it been done before?
  3. What type of questions will be asked (helps to get them up front)?

Learning those tidbits would be vital in me making a decision or going through with this or not- to quote _ “opportunity lays the foundation for speaking engagements and your future”.

I did the interview. It was not stressful and it opened more doors for me professionally. This opportunity also allowed me to share my perspective with new students.

  1. It’s so cool that you’re being asked to do interviews!

    • msw blog says:

Rachel Tipograph once said, “It’s the greatest sign of approval when someone chooses to join your company”. I think the greatest approval is when someone interviews you. It is a great honor and humbling to do interviews, sit on panels, and to know my voice and opinions matter. It is also very surreal. Even after all these years, I will be asked to speak and someone will send me a bio and I will be like wow I want meet and talk to this woman. Then my spouse or someone in my inner circle will say, “Hey, they’re talking about you.” That leaves me thinking okay, I am on the right professional track and completing my mission… lol.
