My career journal is filled with scraps of paper, my dreams, countless questions, and thoughts; all of which bring a flood of memories with one powerful statement, which is “I wish someone would have told me this.” So, I’ll be the one telling you.

“How do you get a new program started?” The question should be “What type of environment do you want to reside in?” and “What type of population do you want to work with?” Be as transparent as possible.
- Pre planning starts with meetings and open conversation.
- Have a wheel of consequences and rewards (staff will make beds, chores, go for walks etc.)
- Design a poster listing ground rules of meetings- leave one to two spaces empty so you can add rules
- Live by the “good place assumptions” example I am going to assume you’re coming from a good place
good tips and best wishes on your program

Thank you. Those notes were from my days in graduate school, but they are still applicable…

yes – and I think I know why you add your notes – part of the way you are offering resources and insights to various readers –
and I might have shared before – but many years ago I was “rescued” by online content a few times – when I needed insight or ideas – and so having this information out there is like dropping seeds – we really do not know how they will fare – some will travel – some will lie dormant – and some sprout after time – and some will provide snacking or food right now – (something like that)
