Design in thirds for a balanced look, fill to thirds of each shelf with books. Then add bookends, framed pictures, and other personal items like objects from your travels in the remaining space.
Switch the sight line mixing horizontal stacks and books standing vertically. “Think about the story being told across bookshelves as a dance that draws your eye to different places.

I wanted a built in bookcase in my living room and I’ve always wanted a computer desk area in my kitchen. I’ve since said I’d also like a larger laundry room next go round. Something that has a sink in it and enough room to actually iron in it. Although I don’t iron.

I have a library in my home with over 500 books, it’s a beautiful space for relaxation. I recall as a child my grandpa had a little study nook in the kitchen. I never got any schoolwork done as I was always trying to listen to adult conversation…lol So, I didn’t look for the feature when I grew up and purchased a home. I have a laundry room with all the bells and whistles, and it’s nice to have.

Yes. I grew up with all that and had it with my first marriage but not anymore. But my first home had carpet too. I can never go back to carpet. Sounds like you have a beautiful home.

When I bought my home the first thing, I did was rip up all the carpet. Carpet and linoleum are big no’s for me. I need and love hardwood floors and beautiful tile.
