Don’t spoil them. I don’t buy them all the things they ask for. Haley’s earning money to buy a dollhouse with chores. So far, she’s got $7. I instill it in my kids everyday: Work Matters. Know when you use your ears instead of your mouth. I spent the first few years of Haley’s life talking over her. When I look back at the videos, I can see it: I’d go, “say, blueberry. Blue. Can you say blue? She was trying to say something, and I was drowning her out. You must give them space to grow into who they are. Listen to them. They’re telling us things.
