“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” – Soren Kierkegaard
I am the woman you will see on the train, not just reading the paper; but highlighting, underlining, and clipping articles. Years of academia have assimilated me to this method –real life moment! This has resulted in a LARGE amount of paper being stuffed in my career journal. My spouse recently ask why I continue to save so many articles. My answer was, these articles are the voices of people in this country and community sharing their story. It is an opportunity to step up and grow, to get involved, and to enrich my life and learn something invaluable. Every article has the chance to make me stronger, wiser, and more knowledgeable if I allow it. My spouse smiled and said “I get that, but how do you know which of these articles still fuel you, are relevant, and more importantly how do you know what you have already accomplished? I admit he had point. Therefore, I will reread these snippets and perhaps purge. I find the best way to do that is to share them with you and decide if they are worth still saving. I am also confident it will also shed some light on how I chose the academic and professional path that I have chosen. What are you purging and organizing this year?
