The Novel

To abandon the novel- would be a surrender. It would allow my sorrow to become curtains on all the windows, locks on all the doors Yet the leaves would still fall outside, and the snow. In the coming spring, new growth would be everywhere. Even were I cocoon myself in my sorrow, life would go forward. -Yiyun Li
