A client, recently asked me after a very emotional session “What is the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you?” I find that to be a loaded question. I am sure many kind acts have been done throughout my lifetime that I am unaware of. This spring I returned home one day to find my rotten porch spindles replaced. I thanked my spouse and he confessed he hadn’t yet found time to complete the task. I asked my neighbor and she said her husband had completed the task. I thanked them profusely and asked how I could repay them. Their reply was “You do every summer. We have mint for mojitos, our children eat your tomatoes, and you return their toys when they’re tossed in your yard.”
With that said, one of my favorite sections of the paper is the rant and rave section. I love these raves. Can you imagine the world just being a happy place?
RAVE To the wonderful women who bought our groceries Christmas Day when we forgot our credit card. We will pay it forward!
RAVE To the wonderful person who sent my son‘s wallet by FedEx to our house with everything in it, including $700 in cash! Thank you so much.
RAVE To the good Samaritan who dropped off Clarence, a 10-year-old German shepherd mix, at the Regional Animal Service of King County in November. He has a new home and many new people who love him. Happy New Year!
RAVE To the unknown stranger who bought my breakfast on New Year’s Day. The waiter told me it was her tradition to start the year right by giving. The warm gesture delighted and inspired me, and will be happily paid forward.
RAVE To the wonderful person who found my eyeglass case filled with treasured family jewelry that I unknowingly left behind at Sea-Tac Airport and turned it in to Lost and Found. Your honesty and kindness made 2017 end with so much gratitude and belief in good people like you!
RAVE AND RANT Rave to people who keep their trees trimmed so the neighbors behind them can enjoy the incredible views this city has. Rant to the ones who don’t because they say, “It’s such a nice tree.” If you like it so much, plant one in front of your view!
RAVE To the local restaurant owner who stood on the sidewalk in front of his restaurant with a tray of hot spice tea for the participants in Saturday’s Women’s March. I was freezing, and his gesture was so appreciated! I love the people in my city.
RAVE To the woman who blocked traffic with her car after my son on his motorcycle was struck by a hit-and-run driver and left in the street. Fortunately he was able to drive home, and she followed him to make sure he was safe. What a wonderful person!
