Big Life Changes

“In September 2017, I suffered a stroke. Big life changes had to be made, and I decided to embrace those changes with diet, exercise, learning to control emotional outbursts (life battle) and new medication. Even so, there were many early days of the ‘poor me.’ I started upping my gratitude by making a list of what didn’t happen, instead of what did. Daily prayer and meditation in the morning. Prayer of gratitude before bed. I follow the heart association menu, exercise at least 30 minutes a day, black out my bedroom at night (which I call the ‘womb room’), am kind to others, find things and people that make me laugh out loud. Focus on living in today and not suffer from the tomorrows. And when I fall short, I try to be kind to myself and say ‘that’s okay’ and just keep on keeping on.” — Betty, 70
