When I was struggling with my mental health, it was difficult to find a therapist. If it was hard for me — someone who has the means — I knew it was a huge problem in the Black community,” she tells InStyle. “I wanted to get people talking, and that’s why we started the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation [named after her father, in 2018]. Too often we have normalized trauma, and I wanted to create an outlet for those who are struggling.”

I wish we didn’t get on the mental health band wagon b/c of hashtags. I don’t know a person today who can’t benefit by talking to someone. I wish we’d all just do it. Now, I can’t see myself without a therapist.

Some individuals need a little push to get the help they need. This may go against some of my colleagues, but I do not believe in individuals having lifetime therapy. You may enjoy this post where I express my feelings in length. “Confidential Hot Seat”
