You are Enough

I deeply know that if you existed in your own bubble and sense of reality, you would find such beauty in how you looked, celebrate the goodness of all that has happened in your life, and be in awe of your resilience and how you made it through some tough times that you thought you’d never make it through. and here’s something I also know; life can be hard. It is hard at times. Finding a glimmer of hope and light can take all of your strength. but when you find yourself in a season of life that is difficult, the last thing i want you to do is compare. for one, you are only privy to the information about their life that you see or have been told. and for two, you have your own unique journey and that alone needs to be your focus. So, when your thoughts swirl and negative beliefs about what you don’t have and what someone else has comes up for you, take a breath, center yourself, and decide to focus on you.

Direction

Use the sun as a compass. After reading your article about directional sense, I thought you overlooked one key tactic: Observe where the sun (or moon) is in the sky and compare that to the time of day. If it is early morning, then the sun, if visible, will be in the east. Late in the day it will be in the west.— Leslie Meyer

Don’t underestimate the power of a map. Looking at a map offers much more information than using a GPS. It allows you to consider which route to take in more terms than just shortest or fastest route. If I have several stops to make, I can think about other ways to organize the trip. For example, Is this trip going to take me near the grocery store or the dry cleaner? — Tom Butler

Vacation

What’s the biggest money mistake I can make while on vacation?

The biggest mistakes don’t happen while you’re on a trip, it’s what you did (or didn’t do) before you left, according to Pamela Holt, travel expert, executive producer and host of “Me, Myself & The World: The Art of Solo Travel.” To avoid costly oversights, add these to-dos to your pre-trip checklist.

  1. Understand your cell phone coverage abroad. “Forgetting to change or update my cell phone plan while traveling abroad has cost me a pretty penny,” says Holt. Check your plan’s international coverage and roaming costs. Some carriers charge a modest fee to access a network overseas (think $5 to $10 a day), which can add up depending on how long you’re gone. For longer trips, you might consider a monthly international planor getting an eSIM data plan.
  2. Consider additional insurance options. Your own health insurance might not be sufficient if you need medical care when traveling abroad. Purchasing a travel health insurance policy that includes emergency medical coverage, like for medical evacuation, can safeguard you from shockingly high bills. Otherwise, “you’re potentially looking at spending thousands of dollars in the event of an emergency,” says Holt.
  3. Double-check baggage allowances. “Many airlines are tightening their baggage allowance policies, and, in some cases, this applies to carry-ons, too,” says Holt. “Make sure you confirm your baggage allowance in advance, and pack accordingly” to avoid getting slammed with additional fees once you get to the airport.

Free Spirit

Keeping Leftovers in the Fridge Past the Point of Viability. Let’s not mince moldy garlic—you’ve got severe abandonment issues, which cause you to hold onto every damn thing. A perpetual people pleaser, you fear tossing something that may have potential because, well, it will all be good if you just wait awhile and add a little Lawry’s. It’s not. Lesson almost learned.

Worthy of Rescue

Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
patiently,
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself to this world
so worthy of rescue.
