Acts of Kindness

RAVE to the Capitol Hill Department of Social and Health Services office and especially to one employee who was so gracious, knowledgeable and patient. I recently accompanied my older sister, who because of health issues, had failed to get her review application in the mail on time. The employee was fabulous in helping us complete the process within the remaining time frame and in setting it up so that this does not happen again. She was wonderful as was another employee, who didn’t just provide security, but also showed compassion and understanding, treating every single person with dignity and genuinely trying to help them navigate their visit. She is an exceptional human. Both of these women are an asset not only to the state and DSHS, but to the human race! I was so very impressed and am so very thankful.

RANT AND RAVE Rant to those whippersnappers who don’t treat their elders — like me — with respect. Rave to those who do.

RAVE to dog owners who use poop bags properly. As a person who volunteers to maintain our wonderful parks, I greatly appreciate all the dog owners and walkers who use poop bags and dispose of them properly in garbage/waste bins instead of throwing the used bags in the bushes (rather defeats the purpose). Thank you!

RAVE to the patient folks at the West Seattle Department of Licensing. Customers were very patient while waiting for the misbehaving new system that wouldn’t work. I left after hanging out for two hours. An employee told me she’d help me the next day when the system was fixed. And she did!

RANT AND RAVE Rant to people who replace toilet rolls in public facilities. Please loosen the end sheet before placing it in the metal holder so we can access the rest of the roll! It’s frustrating to reach for tissue that just spins round and round out of reach! Rave to all those people who work hard to clean and service our public facilities! We appreciate you! Thank you!

RAVE to eagle cams where we can witness Jackie and Shadow on Big Bear Lake rearing three chicks. It’s reassuring to see a top predator being so gentle. It’s a welcome salve to our broken civic hearts.

RAVE to two kind ladies on the Burke-Gilman Trail who saw one glove hanging out of my pocket and tapped my arm in order to tell me they’d seen the other glove a ways back and stuck it on a tree. I went back and found it about half a mile away. So considerate! So observant!

RAVE to the staff at Krain Corner restaurant in Enumclaw. They found a ring I thought I had lost after having been there for lunch. I called the restaurant and an employee answered. I gave her a description of the ring and my phone number. When my daughter was about 9 or 10 years old, she picked out the ring for my husband to give to me for my birthday. My daughter passed away in 2016. Therefore, it was devastating to have lost it. I didn’t think I would ever see it again. Lo and behold, I get a call from the restaurant. They found the ring. I will be forever grateful!

RAVE to the daffodils on Highway 305. Driving down 305 on Bainbridge Island the other day, I was enchanted by the daffodils blooming on both sides of the road. These were obviously not randomly planted; the blooms were aesthetically spaced, reminiscent of a trail leading the way in a fairy tale! Daffodils are such a cheerful flower! Truly appreciate the efforts the mystery gardener took to enhance the sometimes stressful drive to the ferry terminal!

RAVE to the wonderful person I spoke to after calling 988. I just wanted to say thank you for supporting me when I was feeling down. You changed my morning and my life.
