Simple Things

What is one of the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen?
The moments when you realize you are alive. You go to work, go home, sleep, wake up, eat breakfast, simple things, but you don’t stop for a second and just look back, look to the right and to the left and say, “I am alive. I have something special.” It’s the simple things.- Saner

Positively Purging-I welcome your feedbacks in the comments and your likes and passing the real life wisdom on to others as I embark on this new venture of “positively purging“, as I know each of these pieces represents something…

3 Journaling Prompts to Explore Your Regrets

1. Looking back on your life, what do you wish you had done differently? Consider the four main categories of regret listed above—(foundational regrets, boldness regrets, connection regrets, and moral regrets). Write about a domain of your life where you experience the most regret. Does your regret fall into any of these categories? How?

2. Consider the regrets you wrote about above. What role did context play in your actions or inactions? What role did your learning history, access to skills and resources, social network, or systemic factors like oppression play in your behavior?

3. The most profound love we can give something is our attention. Learning to stay with your regrets longer allows you to bring some care and curiosity to them. What do your regrets teach you about what you value? How can you act on that value today?

Unexpected

My husband and I live near his parents. They are very nice people, but they have a terrible habit of showing up at our house uninvited. Like they’re out doing errands and then they just stop in.

Honestly, I do not like this at all. I grew up in a small town with lots of family around, but we would never do this. We might call when we were on the way and ask if we could pop by, but I don’t think in my whole life I ever had a family member show up at my house without any prior notification. If they did, I would think there was an emergency.

Last weekend they showed up and because we weren’t expecting company, our house was a complete shambles. We mainly keep it neat, but on this day it was awful. I was so embarrassed.

What should I do?

– Upset Wife

Dear Upset: You should tell them, “You really do need to call first if you want to stop in. I want to spend time with you, but could you please call first to give us a choice about whether it’s a good time for us?”

Ask the question and wait for their answer. If they don’t say “yes,” ask it again in a way that demonstrates that for you, this is not really negotiable.

Remember Online Awareness

There are some basic practices that can help, but slowing down and moving more deliberately, like taking time to check whether suspicious emails have official-looking addresses (or are off by one letter or digit), can help.

Don’t download software providing remote access to your computer or cellphone. Don’t click on sponsored links, advertisements and pop-up screens, all of which can contain malware. Turn on pop-up blockers in your web browsers.

Scammers can spoof legitimate numbers on your caller ID so it looks like as if are calling from, say, your bank or the Social Security Administration. Be sure to call back providers using phone numbers you found independently, or on the back of your bank cards. (Also be aware that scammers have been known to take over mobile phones and redirect outgoing calls.)
