State Your Goal

It’s tough to motivate yourself if you can’t pinpoint why you’re doing something, says Amy Tokos, a certified professional organizer based in Kansas City, Missouri. So identify the reason you’re clearing out space—you need a spot to practice yoga, for example. “If you’re struggling to decide whether to get rid of an item, ask, Is it more important than my goal?” Tokos says. Set a deadline for achieving your aim; that should keep you on task.

Gardening

The glory of gardening…hands in dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature, to nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul. — Alfred Austin

Serve Signature Cocktails

Skipping the traditional full bar can save you hundreds of dollars. Hint: The Knot estimates that couples spent an average of about $2,800 on alcohol in 2023. Instead of splashing out on the bar, select two signature cocktails, aka your and your fiancé’s fave drinks, to cut costs.

Grocery List

My parents sent me to the store
to buy a loaf of bread.
I came home with a puppy
and a parakeet instead.

I came home with a guinea pig,
a hamster and a cat,
a turtle and a lizard
and a friendly little rat.

I also had a monkey
and a mongoose and a mouse.
Those animals went crazy
when I brought them in the house.

They barked and yelped and hissed
and chased my family out the door.
My parents never let me
do the shopping anymore.
