Mini Makeover: Paint Edition

A burst of color in a white cabinet looks pretty darn exciting. Paint the inside of the cabinets and the shelves teal, then put everything in place once fully dry.

Ready for a Change

Self-control is probably one of the hardest things to master. How often have we been defeated by a bad habit, a lousy attitude, or a wrong mindset? We make promises to improve. We ask someone to hold us accountable. But deep inside, we know that we don’t have the will or the ability to change. We can talk, we can plan, we can read self-help books, but we still find it difficult to overcome and control many of the things that are inside us!

Positively Purging-I welcome your feedbacks in the comments and your likes and passing the real life wisdom on to others as I embark on this new venture of “positively purging“, as I know each of these pieces represents something…

Pronouns

My firm asked all employees to add our pronouns to our email signatures to promote inclusivity. So, I did: “He/him/his.” I am in sales and send out hundreds of outreach emails every week. Today, a potential customer replied: “Not interested.” He said he was “turned off by the unnecessary pronoun thing.” I support inclusivity. But this interaction made me wonder about the risks and rewards of my company’s policy. My email signature isn’t suddenly going to make anyone more welcoming to nonbinary people. But some may be turned off by it. And I don’t think leaving off my pronouns would offend anyone. Am I wrong?  ANONYMOUS

Even before I could read Philip’s answer, my mind was made up. No. Pronouns should not be included in an email signature. I think of trans or nonbinary people who aren’t ready to come out, and feel this policy is problematic because it pressures people to either out themselves before they’re comfortable or lie. I agree it may also make it easier for some trans and nonbinary people to come out, but coming out is a process, and just because you come out you may not be in the space to have the talk and answer the (insensitive) questions. I understand  Philips  point “Including pronouns is a useful reminder to avoid making assumptions and to address people correctly.”  When I correspond with individuals by email who have not met me, my pronouns are often mixed up. This is likely due to my name, and my profession, as many do not consider a woman to be as likely to run a business or be direct in their correspondence. This, to me, allows us to have a bigger conversation than gender. What are your thoughts on this issue?

Do You Remember…Window Seats

These simple design features were as common in older homes as ketchup at a cookout. The best seats were like the one I had in my first home: It had a hinged lid, which created a great storage area under a delightful spot for gazing out the window.

Don’t Save the Good Stuff

Where did we learn “to save the best for last” anyway? I’m blaming the only place I ever learned anything: Sesame Street. But it doesn’t make a lick of sense. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? At the start of quarantine time, I opened a tin of souvenir sardines someone brought me from Paris. I forked them onto crackers while watching Schitt’s Creek on a Tuesday and I felt like the queen of the couch. There was MUSTARD in there; it was amazing! The next night I opened a bottle of natural vermouth I paid too much for in an attempt to look cool in front of my coworkers. It was cherry-cola delicious. Defrost the big steaks! Use that $$$ almond paste! Crack open the rainy-day Ghirardelli brownie mix! However you define the good stuff, don’t sit on it any longer waiting for a “special occasion.” The special occasion is, hopefully, that you have your health and people in your life who send you birthday texts. I’ll toast to that.
