RANT

RANT to “pet friendly” accommodations that charge $20 per dog per night and then state in their instructions that there should be “no evidence of the pet, such as hair.” How can places reasonably expect to rent to people with dogs and not encounter a bit of dog hair when cleaning the room? It seems to me that these rentals want to have their cake and eat it too … charge extra for pets but avoid any inconvenience that might result from that policy.

RANT to all those deplaning passengers who crowd next to the baggage carousels, preventing any others from seeing and getting their bags.

RANT to people who move into a neighborhood and then start harassing the people who already live there by filing bogus complaints with the city. Our tax dollars are being spent to pay city employees to inspect homeowner properties for issues that have been present for years and have bothered no one else. Folks, this is a CITY. What’s next? Are we breathing too loud for you, Karen? If you can’t stand the sight, sound or smell of your neighbors working on their own cars or art pieces on their own property, move to 10 acres in the country, and build a 6 foot fence around your land to keep out all the pesky humans.

RANT to my health care system’s frustrating phone system. Everyone has to call a central number. I was told I would have to hold for more than 60 minutes when I tried to call a clinic. I then used the web to contact my doctor and got an appointment through her, but it took at least three staff members to arrange it, when a single receptionist could have done it. An inefficient use of staff time and frustrating for everyone.

Thrive

Growth takes effort, we know, but it needn’t always require constant toil. Think of how far a little sunshine and a sprinkle of water go toward making a seedling sprout. What little habits shift can you make this season feel easy and nourishing? Could shifting your attention to others relieve some pressure? What simple steps can you take that are too small to fail?

Positively Purging-I welcome your feedbacks in the comments and your likes and passing the real life wisdom on to others as I embark on this new venture of “positively purging“, as I know each of these pieces represents something

More than an Afterhought

Walk through your home and – not with a mindset of nagging criticisms, but with love, care, and affection you’d give to a friend over coffee who sharing the ways they’d like to, say, drink more water, date better guys, get bangs – begin to create a list of the little things you’d like to someday swap out, and or get rid of. If possible, it’s helpful to prioritize this list by what’s most dire need of change.

After you know what needs to be done, begin jotting down another list of all the little moments that inspire you as you’re out and about in the world. Go big here, not holding back or being too practical. This isn’t necessarily a shopping list. Instead, the goal is for you to become aware of the pieces and styles you have drawn to, of the design aesthetics that can infused into your own home.

Who to learn from When You’re the Boss

Create your own board of directors.

Your board doesn’t have to be anything formal. In fact, your “members” don’t even need to know they’re on your board. All you need to do is select three to five people with different areas of expertise and then reach out to them when questions arise.

Creating a formal problem solving “process” for yourself can alleviate the feelings that the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Plus, creating a board force you to step outside the day-today tasks of running your business and to connect with people- something we too often dismiss as superfluous when we feel crunched for time.

You may already know who you would ask to be on board. -Adam Bornstein
