Empty Toilet Paper Tubes

The next time you finish up a roll of toilet paper, rather than toss that empty cardboard tube straight into the recycle bin, you should give it another life as a cord organizer! It turns out, a humble, empty toilet paper roll can make your cord situation so much better.

4-Step Formula to Politely Decline an Invitation

Remember that “no” is a complete sentence and you aren’t obligated to go to any event you don’t want to. Then, try out the CARE rule to politely decline an invite.

  • Consider the invitation by saying something like, “Let me check my calendar” — then remember to follow up with your answer.
  • Express your appreciation by saying something like, “Thank you so much for thinking of me.”
  • Respond clearly with your answer, and include a timeline for the person to follow up with you — even if that time is never. (You could say something like, “I’d love to try to make the next one.”)
  • Empathize with the person extending the invitation by saying something like, “I hope you have a wonderful time.”

Vino Lover

Recently my husband’s high school class organized a get together at a classmate’s home, with about 30 people in attendance.

I brought a bottle of wine and handed it to the hostess.

While chatting with some of his other classmates I was informed that there would be no alcohol being served. The hosts did have water and soft drinks.

Should I have asked for my wine back?

If they don’t drink alcohol, what happened to my wine?

I’m being petty, but I am a …– Vino Lover

You are being petty. Surely you aren’t really wondering if you should have asked this host to de-gift this bottle of wine and hand it back to you.

You don’t know whether these hosts drink alcohol. You only know that they chose not to serve alcohol for this event.

What happens to this bottle next is very much up to them. If you invite them to dinner, you might see it returned to you as a host-gift.

Grow New Lettuce Leaves from Roots

You could head to the grocery every time you need a new head—or you could grow lettuce straight from your kitchen. Go ahead and eat your store-bought batch, but leave the central part of the vegetable untouched, since this section possesses the power for producing new growth. Cut the leaves about an inch from the bottom of the lettuce bunch.Place the lettuce stem in a shallow dish of water. Change the water every couple of days; after 10 to 12 days, you’ll have new leaves growing from the center of the stem. This tender lettuce is perfect for making small salads or topping sandwiches.

Emotional Well-being.

Over the last couple of years, and especially during the pandemic, I hope that people have figured out ways to take better care of themselves. I certainly did. I started walking daily. I walk for almost an hour every day and it is just really, really good for me. Because I get fresh air, I get to be out in the sunshine, which always makes me happy. My body gets the movement it needs and my mind has free time to wander. It is when I do a lot of my thinking, a lot of my processing of things that are sort of bothering me. And when some of my best ideas bubble up. My mind can shut off for a while and I don’t have to deal with the phone calls, texts, or what anybody else wants. I found a way to put some good healthy boundaries around myself to prioritize taking good care of myself. And you know, drink water and mind my business.
