Stella by Starlight

For the last 20 years, I have woken up to an occasional angry glare from my wife. “What’s wrong?” I’d ask. “It was Stella again!” she’d respond, clearly hurt. Strangely, her dreams of infidelity always included a woman named Stella, who had led me astray. I’ve always been faithful and didn’t know any Stellas but promised to run if I ever encountered one. Last week, our son returned home and mentioned the name of his new love interest, Stella. Dream mystery solved: Stella was pursuing the other man my wife loves so much, her son! — David Cooke

Hair Tales: Products and Routine

The question above made me smile and laugh. I could also hear my grandmother saying, “There are two types of people those with no hair and trying to do too much, and those with too much who don’t do anything with it”. I have always been in the latter camp. When I get asked about my hair, my answer is “I wash, condition, and move on with my day, and the products are nothing special”. My spouse will often chime in and say, she uses Juice and Berries (this is a famous film reference) and for those who get it, a great laugh ensues. Though my spouse is correct, the players in my hair routine are Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo, extra olive oil, Glory conditioner, and Revive Hair Moisturizer (both by LUSH).

The routine: I wash my hair once a week in the colder months (two to four times aweek in the warmer months), followed by a deep overnight conditioner rinsed with ice cold water, followed by a few drops of olive oil and Revive, followed by putting my hair into four to six buns so it doesn’t get tangled. In the morning I undo the buns and go on about my day. I spend no more than 10 minutes a day on my hair, excluding wash day.

No, I don’t know “How it gets so curly?” In the 25 plus years I have been natural, my best guesses are it’s had enough time to find its natural curl pattern, genetics, and I don’t add heat. Albeit I have been known to have it straightened and my ends trimmed annually on Halloween to freak people out. What’s your hair routine? How much time and money do you spend on your hair?

Every Body is Perfect!

I have some stretch marks from a serious weight loss.  I used to be really self-conscious about them, but now they’re more of a reminder of how far I’ve come.

Goals

My goal is to feel pulled together and a little offbeat. And I like to keep things simple.
