The best advice I’ve ever received: Don’t judge people by how they look. My visits to rural China showed me that a person’s appearance doesn’t reflect her life or aspirations (“You can’t measure the sea with a pot.” ). The weirdest advice that actually worked: Be average. When you try too hard to be the very best at something, it can backfire and be paralyzing.
