Remembered

I do not want to be remembered as
a woman who was always exhausted.
I do not want to be remembered as
a woman who was always stressed,
always busy, always rushing, always
holding herself together and pushing
through. I would like to be remembered
as a relaxed woman, a compassionate
woman, a curious, joyful, pleasure
loving woman. A woman who works
hard and rests deeply, who loves
fiercely and lives peacefully. A woman
who knows her worth and her power,
who accepts her imperfections and
her vulnerabilities, who embraces
her limitations and her possibilities.
A woman who laughs and cries and
aches and loves and is enchanted by the
mess and magic and mundaneness of
is beautiful, shimmering life.”

Taking the Lead

Taking the lead is never easy. Sometimes it’s a choice or even a pursuit. Often, though, it’s a position or responsibility that has been thrown upon people as a product of particular time or circumstance or because of who they are and what they do represent. To be at the Vanguard of the field, of a movement, of a moment is well much more than leadership in the traditional sense. Is it about the way we certain individuals live or embody something we have never seen before. It’s about the willingness to be the first and venture into the unchartered waters of the unknown. It’s about their conviction, tenacity in the face of backlash or resistance and their drive and determination to break boundaries and create new parody and possibilities. It’s about resilience and resolve, vision, and ambition, but perhaps crucially it’s about the way they inspire us to embrace who we are and everything we have to offer to take the lead ourselves. The people who are truly at the forefront of those who pushed the culture For really do it alone. They all bring all of us along with them.

Patience

With kindness, practice putting your impatience on pause for moments throughout your day. Take a couple of deeper, relaxing breaths, look around the room you are in, feel your feet on the ground and remember that life isn’t meant to be a relay race. Make caring for your body, mind and heart a priority.  A sense of urgency may still be present, but you can relax into knowing you are doing the best you can, mindfully and compassionately, moment-by-moment.

Self-Transformation

S: I’m grateful for the God tea. Sidebar, what do you feel like your top three contributing factors to self-transformation in the last few years have been?

KL: The power of honesty and being honest with myself, perspective about the person sitting across from me, and learning that vulnerability is not a weakness. That last one probably been one I’m still developing.
