Achievement

The road to achievement is a long one, and those without patience—who want to see results immediately—may not be willing to walk it.

Learning

I guess I haven’t learned that yet. I wrote that sentence because I wanted us to have a common language for what it means to be a learner, a beginner, to be curious and make mistakes and get back up. To ask questions and figure it out as we go.

I told the boys that each of us was going to say that phrase every single day about something, and that it was a good thing, not a bad thing. Not knowing something already doesn’t make you bad or dumb; it doesn’t mean you failed. Not knowing something doesn’t mean you’re falling behind or fundamentally flawed. It just means there’s more to learn. –Shauna Niequist

Connection

Which of the practices that you share do you think is the best one for fostering connection with others? Getting Away has a whole section on balancing your relationships. Stack your phones at dinner and be present with each other. Send a postcard! A favorite of mine: Schedule a Day of Jubilation, which is a tech-free wander through the world with friends where you open yourself up to spontaneity. And carve out time to purposefully ask deeper questions with your friends. – Jon Staff

Trust Your Gut

My best advice is to trust your gut. Also, dare to have the audacity to believe in yourself. I believe we all know, to some extent, our purpose. I think many of us have just gotten really good at minimizing that purpose or not believing in ourselves.

We must lean in to the voice that says we can. Lean in to the voice that says, I believe in you. Lean in to that little by little, and you’ll start to hear that sound of the drumbeat that is your power. And when you can hear that hum, you will know you’re in line with your purpose. Listen for that drumbeat. – Tunde Oyeneyin
