Theme Song

What’s your “energy” song? Today we’re sharing one of our all-time favorite “quick-energy” energy hacks. It’s simple, it’s fun, and it will make you feel good! And it goes like this: First, do you have a song that you ab-so-lutely love? Like, if you were an actress making the rounds on talk shows, you’d choose it as your walk-on song? Now, try this as an experiment. The next time you’re feeling tired and blah, crank up one of those songs. Voila! Instant energy! Scientists have found that music can activate a region of the brain – located in your prefrontal cortex – that suppresses fatigue. And what’s more, studies have long shown that upbeat music can actually help you work out harder and longer … without it feeling either longer or harder. Pretty cool, right? But this doesn’t only apply to your workouts. It can translate into the rest of your life, anytime you need a little extra energy. Note: This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t rest when your body is truly tired. It’s a useful tool, though, when you feel laggy. Give it a try next time you need a boost of energy.

Beautiful Security

Can you recommend a security camera for outside my house that is discreet and looks really modern?

It turns out burglars are not very complicated. According to the Department of Justice, they are deterred by cameras, security stickers and floodlights. My advice would be to get a camera that’s not flashy — but actually flashes. Extra points for a good siren. It doesn’t have to be three feet tall or blare a John Philip Sousa march (although that would be nice), but it should be obvious.

Why would you want a security camera that’s discreet? You want to scare off potential burglars, not let them know you have good taste. An elegantly designed unit sends out the message: “You think this is cool? I’ve got even nicer stuff inside!”

A highly regarded brand that has all the bells and whistles is Ring. Its Floodlight Cam Wired Plus (from about $180) has motion-activated LEDs, full high-definition video and a built-in 105-decibel siren. The form is just bulky enough to announce itself and comes in basic black or white. Ring also allows you to monitor and get alerts through a smartphone app. With a subscription (from $3 a month), you can record video from one or several cameras. ring.com

Excerpt from a Career Journal: Professional Math

Publish in an open access journal | Emerald Publishing

I looked at my hours this evening. After three years I have accumulated _____ clinical hours, _____ non-clinical hours and ______supervision hours. I think of that saying, “You don’t know how fast you’re going until you’re going.” I realized my speed is full on part-time, so “Why can’t the state establish a part-time licensure program?” They have a part-time social worker program, and rules for those who want to pursue it. I understand they want to make sure you are prepared to be a well-rounded clinician, but these hours and the time restriction just don’t fit everyone!
