Mindful Breaths

Take 3 deep, satisfying mindful breaths as you wake up and before falling asleep. As you do this in the morning, consider setting an intention for your day, and in the evening, recall 3 things you are grateful for, maybe that happened that day or in the past. Invite the body to relax as you notice the felt sense of it being supported by the surface you are resting on.

 Five Senses

Bring all five senses with you on your next walk in the woods, a city park, or your neighborhood. Feel the connection of your feet in contact with the earth, notice the sky above you and all the different hues and colors of nature before you, hear the sounds of the wind and smell the aliveness of the earth. Nature is always in the present moment; resting in her rhythm and aliveness can remind us of our deep and nourishing connection with the earth. If you can’t get outdoors, consider reflecting mindfully on nature’s enduring qualities.

Starting to cook

Perhaps someone wants to start cooking, but they feel intimidated. What would you say to them?

If you want to start cooking at home, first buy a couple of good products. Keep it simple. If you want to make a sandwich, buy the best fresh baguette and the greatest butter. And, of course, a baguette and butter together? Wow, that’s great, just like that! Then, you can do more from there. But start simple and cook a little bit at a time, and you will see how easy it is to build from there. – Jacques Pépin

Try mindful driving and commuting

Try mindful driving and commuting. Everytime you encounter a stop sign or light, consider taking a moment to appreciate a few mindful breaths or the feel of your feet as you observe the world around you. When you notice stress bubbling up, instead of boiling over, consider offering yourself and your fellow travelers some kindness by repeating the following phrases: May I be at ease. May you be at ease, may we all know a deep inner peace.

Moments
