patience isn’t just about waiting. It’s about how we wait.

Words matter. Hate destroys. And a mob mentality—one that’s jacked up on misinformation—can spread like wildfire and take down civilizations. It has before, and it can again. That’s exactly what needs to happen here. We all have to forgive ourselves and others, and we all have to come together and agree that this next chapter has to be one that we will write together. It has to be one that we will write honestly, one that will include all of us, and one that will lead us all forward in a language of compassion, love, and strength. We need to rebuild our country in the manner that it deserves to be rebuilt.
Never forget the power of your words. Never forget the power of your voice. As Margaret Mead said many years ago, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
We shouldn’t expect to be good at anything on day one.
It’s a good reminder when trying something new, but also a metaphor for life: to give yourself grace. To allow the awkwardness. To know that it will feel uncomfortable at first, maybe for a long time. Whether it’s your life journey or learning something new, the experience is going to be imperfect. You’re going to make mistakes. It’s going to take time to get better, to achieve a level that makes you feel like you have done or accomplished something meaningful. Don’t let your mind bully you into believing “you should better by now” or “you need to be doing more, more, more.” Accept where you are. Embrace the discomfort. Find others who inspire and support you every step of the way. Most of all, be kind to yourself. Enjoy the journey and embrace it all. Life is short.
Dear God, please forgive us for the culture of hate that we’ve sown into this land. May we rise above it. May those of us who are good, honest, hard-working people say “not on my watch.” May we commit ourselves to a new chapter and start writing it together. Amen.

Start showing up for yourself in really small ways. Maybe it’s a journaling habit for five minutes every day. Just do that for a month. Not that followed by yoga and meditation and all the other healthy things. You can’t stick to five hours of self-care! But five minutes—that’s doable, right? That’s how to show up for yourself in small ways. – Meghan Rabbitt
