Timeless

Our home provides the perfect opportunity to show off our personalities and build havens of inspiration for all types of creativity projects. One simply, ageless philosophy is to mix and match vintage pieces with contemporary ones. I like finding old candles, dried flowers, or vintage books to decorate my home. Don’t worry too much about how your old and new pieces fit together. As long as you love each one, your personal style will shine through

Perfection

I think that striving to be perfect can cause people to not end up doing anything at all. It’s great to have high standards for the outcome of whatever you do, because that means you care. But when your focus is complete perfection, it will definitely hinder any creativity, because perfection doesn’t exist.  – Kendra Dandy

Black Perspective

For the first time in my teaching career, my students could be my children. They are watching and becoming in a world where white power is daintily called “white privilege,” where engineered racial humiliation at work or school is called a “microaggression.” We have made a nation for them filled with Americans left and right of center who have butchered the so-called Awakenings our parents’ parents fought, organized, and died for, making “woke,” the literal act of being awakened/no longer asleep, into a pejorative. – Experience

Unprepared

None of us is ever prepared for death. When a great tree falls, the birds, with no branch to perch on, scatter. Looking for a new home.

Reinventing Themselves

I try to “reinvent” with every breath I take, but I am always the same person. Every time I am willingly to acknowledge my thoughts, I let them go and come back to the freshness of the present moment. – Peter Langer

The pandemic forced me, like most folks I know, to create new rituals. Instead of writing, teaching, and hopping on planes every week, I became one of those people whose daily pleasure was parking at the dog park and listening to music until I fell asleep. That’s a beautiful day to me now. -Kiese Laymon

I go into each chapter of my life with an open mindedness that allows me to become a better version of myself. Whether it’s major shifts in setting or changes in my perception of the world brought on by scholarly thinkers such as Bell Hooks, reinvention means allowing our mind to be malleable. -Xavier Scott Marshall
