Diversity,Equity,Inclusion

Know the difference between “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion.”

Though they’re often presented collectively as “DEI,” these terms each have their own meanings. To me, diversity means embracing and honoring a wide array of differences. It’s more than representing difference; it’s about celebrating and supporting it. I define equity as fairness; it’s meeting students where they need to be met. Inclusion simply means belonging: when a student walks into a classroom, do they feel like they belong in it and that they will be valued?

It’s important to recognize that diversity can exist in spaces that are not equitable or inclusive. For example, a company might make hiring underrepresented groups a priority, but that doesn’t necessarily mean those groups will feel welcomed or supported. Though they’re intertwined, each of these terms requires its own attention and action. –Karen Thomas-Brown

Ordinary People

When God intervenes, He uses ordinary people. We may not be assigned huge tasks, but we can play our part to help bring about peace and the righteousness that exalts a nation (Prov. 14:34). We ask for Your intervention as we turn to You in confession and repentance. We praise You for Your blessing and Your provision. Prayer for those in authority is both a privilege and a duty.

Networking

We think of “networking” as a business term. Why is it so important to our personal lives?

“As human beings, we’re built to be social creatures. No matter what you hope to achieve — emotional support, thriving in your relationships, doing well at work — it involves other people. Also, others are our greatest source of joy. The best moments in our lives have to do with who was there with us. Our networks are those people.”
