What health goals do you have this year…not every workout needs to be a killer sweat fest…and that’s OK!
Positively Purging-I welcome your feedbacks in the comments and your likes and passing the real life wisdom on to others as I embark on this new venture of “positively purging“, as I know each of these pieces represents something…
While 2020 was certainly challenge for a myriad of reasons, one bright spot was reconnecting with a childhood friend. I got so emotional when she reached out, because I instantly recalled the joy of our friendship had brought me as a kid. When we finally connected, I opened up about my struggle as working mother, and she willingly offered to lift a bit of the burden. I’ve been. Experiencing with my daughter remote learning-schedules. She began an educational Zoom lesson with my daughter, and it’s something we look forward to every week. I am beyond grateful to have her in my life again. -Monique Valeris
By Letters editor The Seattle TimesRe: “Gov. Inslee: Law enforcement, firefighters, grocery workers to get COVID-19 vaccines in March” [March 4, Health]:I am overjoyed that essential workers like grocery employees will finally get their long-deserved shot at immunity starting March 22. But I was disheartened that custodians were absent from the list of workers considered essential. My mother — a custodian for more than 31 years — wakes every day at 3 a.m. to make sure the buildings she cares for are clean. This work has always been demanding (and gratifying). But now the increased complexity of infection-control practices, the inherent risks and physical demands have made that work even more so. The dedication she and her colleagues have shown every day for the past year breathes new meaning into the phrase “cleanliness is next to godliness.” If that is not essential work, I don’t know what is. My mother and many of her colleagues are immigrants and refugees who play a vital role in our community’s health, yet they continue to be overlooked in this pandemic. What does this say about how our society values custodians’ lives, families and work? All custodians should be deemed vaccine eligible on March 22, and employers should provide flexibility and paid time off so they actually have a chance of securing an appointment. -Evalynn Fae Taganna Romano, Seattle
Being a Black woman has taught me fortitude, focus, and courage, and shown me the love of sisterhood and connection. Being a disabled, Black woman has taught me patience and perseverance. While in many ways, it has forced me to leverage my tenacity and strength, even when things get particularly challenging.
