Calm Racing Thoughts

Before you walk, pause and take a few deep breaths. Remind yourself of your intentions. What do you want to gain from this experience? Once outside try to tap into your senses. Notice the temperature of the air, the scent of the season. Look at the landscape. Listen to the sounds from animals, cars, other people. When you feel your mind start to wander, focus in on your breathe. Try to sync your breathing with your steps; feel the pattern of your feet hitting the ground as you inhale and then exhale – Dora Kamau

Wellness

Let’s talk wellness! Do you like to work out? Love it! I do the Peloton – I’m obsessed. I think that’s another misconception, that if you’re bigger you don’t like working out. I work out for my mental health -It’s where I get my me time. I think we need to see more representation within the fitness world- from the trainers down to the front desk team. How else do you take care of yourself? The biggest thing is making sure my mental health is on track. A Pal

“Good luck with everything, pal.” That was the final text from the man I thought would be my final love. Five words bent into a flint dagger. My eyes welled and my lips blubbered; sweat soaked through my shirt. Opened and emptied, I stumbled downstairs, knocked on my roommate Adhitya’s door and asked for an invitation to his bed, where he held me as I choked back heartache. He did not disparage my ex or remind me of my worth. He only cuddled me until my heaving gave and kissed my cheek before I returned upstairs. A pal. — Skyler Gordon
